At the recent inaugural District Youth Forum, 18 Scouts and Explorers provided feedback from DAW17 and gave suggestions and ideas for DAW19. Many of these are included in the programme for the weekend. The outline programme is as follows:

Friday evening

‘Opening Ceremony and Campfire’

Saturday morning/afternoon

Beavers – Various activity bases.

Cubs – Various activity bases.

Scouts – Land and Water activities offsite.

Explorers – Hike to ‘Total Wipeout’ Water course and off-site overnight camp.

Saturday evening –Groups dinner and ‘Free Time’

Cubs to continue with bases followed by ‘Food from Around the World’ cooked by Scouts.

Scout cooking competition. Prepare and cook snacks from the same country as your camp gateway.

Explorers, return hike to camp.

*programme subject to change

Two ideas from the Youth Forum relate to the construction of a camp gateway for each group and a scout cooking competetion on Sunday morning. In keeping with the International theme of the camp, the gateway should reflect a country and for the cooking competition, the Scouts will need to prepare and cook snack(s) from that same country.

Set up: Tents can be pitched on the Thursday evening in readiness for the weekend. If any Group thinks they may have insufficient canvas or equipment, please let Kevin Hankin know as soon as possible.

Activities: The activities mentioned on the event flier may be subject to change. The off-site Activity Centre has a maximum capacity of Scouts/Explorers. Once we have an indication of numbers and if this exceeds the maximum number we may need to look for an alternative activity location for the complete group or possibly split the group between two centres. We will keep you informed if things change.

Parental Help: This event is a really good opportunity to invite parents to help! It’s going to be a fantastic weekend! A quick reminder that all adults on site need to have had a DBS check… so make sure you ask parents if they would like to come and help as soon as possible so that this can be arranged in plenty of time.
